How to handle students who are causing trouble in your classes.

Aerial instructors are already so busy, we’re keeping everyone safe, having fun, getting stronger and learning new skills and sequences, that having a bad apple student in class can be really disruptive.

A lot of the tools we use to manage these students are already in place before students even show up for their first class. Things like clear and consistent school culture and class culture as well as guidelines and expectations.

But, what do you do if someone is acting up in class?

There are so many different ways to act up. Are they trying to get attention for no good reason? Or do they actually need more help or just don’t understand something? Trying to figure out the reason will determine the approach.

But, if there is a safety issue, for example, they’re doing something unsafe to get attention, then the first priority is to stop the unsafe behavior (with a firm instruction to stop or get down), then address the root cause.
